“Are We Human?” / “Biz İnsan mıyız?”
In 2010 Daisy Duck lands with her entourage—Dagobert Duck, Mickey Mouse, plus bodyguards—on the runway of legendary Berlin Tempelhof airport. Their objective is to capture a sand hill, and to celebrate a motley commodity delirium happening (in miniature). It’s a serious game: these hangars, which ever since civil aviation at Tempelhof got discontinued in 2008 have become one of the most spectacular event locations in Europe, were just witnessing the disposal of the marketing rigmarole after an international fashion fair. Berlin-based artist Kerstin Weichsel put together about 500 documentary and scenical photographs specifically for the theme of the 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial 2016: “Are We Human?” / “Biz İnsan mıyız? The Design of the Species: 2 seconds, 2 days, 2 years, 200 years, 200,000 years“.
